On April 30, President Biden signed a Presidential Proclamation suspending the entry of individuals who have been physically present in India during the 14-day-period preceding their entry. The suspension goes into effect on 12:01 AM EDT on Tuesday, May 4. U.S. Citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents are not subject to the proclamation, and the Proclamation contains other exceptions as well.
Individuals who do not meet one of the listed exceptions may also apply for a National Interest Exception. The U.S. Department of State Secretary has applied the same set of National Interest Exceptions to India which apply to all other regional travel restrictions currently in effect as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
